課程概述 |
This is a beginning course in Mandarin, there’s no prerequisite for this course. This class is designed to help students acquire Knowledge of spoken and written Chinese and to assist them in gaining proficiency and accuracy using these skills in real-life situations. The curriculum emphasizes developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, especially regarding topics of daily concerns.
For the first two weeks, the course will focus on foundation work, (“Pinyin “system, tones, structure of characters. ): this stage is essential for later progress in all other aspects of the language. During the semester, students will learn to greet others, introduce themselves, and handle basic social situations: talk about themselves, needs and preferences, giving directions. The course aims to enhance abilities to:
1. Pronounce and intonate.
2. Learn grammatical principles of Chinese language.
3. Converse on personal topics.
4. Read short narratives and descriptive texts.

課程目標 |
After finishing this course, students can
1. Use basic greeting to respond to people under different circumstances, e.g. greetings, express thanks.
2. Talk about their own or other people’s personal information to other people. E.g: enquire about telephone number, introduce one’s own family, express one’s hobbies and likes and dislikes, express what one has or doesn't not have; express what one is specialized in or not specialized I when meeting new friends.
3. Share their life experience while chatting with friends from other country. E.g.: what one did, when and where? And students’ own leisure activities or plan.
4. Bargain with shops and then share their shopping experience with other friends after shopping, e.g: the size and function of the goods.
5. Describe the position of people or things and then describe when one does at what place and what that place has.

課程要求 |
TESTS: Each Lesson will have one lesson test and two exams(a mid-term and a final exam) in a semester. All tests will be given only on the assigned days. There will be no make-up test unless the student has a valid reason and notify the instructor in advance. The tests will be all in traditional characters.
Oral Exam: There will be TWO oral exams in this semester. Each student will have 3-5 minutes to talk with the teacher.
Final Project: In groups students script and shoot short films. Every student has to say 10 sentences at least and all conversation must be in Chinese language.

ASSIGNMENTS:
Workbook (Required): Assignments from the workbook and the character workbook will be graded. Students are expected to do the exercises all by themselves. Late assignments will not be accepted, unless a medical or official excuse is provided in advance of class.
Students also have recording/ listening homework, students should upload these homework to Ceiba.
ATTENDANCE: Students who are absent within 6 hours (including the absence that late for class or leave class 20 minutes than scheduled from class) will not lose any point. From the 7th hour, students will lose one point per hour.
Attendance at all classes is required and is important. Unless a medical or official excuse is provided (for absences more than twice a week, doctor’s note or Dean’s excuse is needed.)
If students have to miss a class, they must send an NTU Online Notification Form or email to your instructor in advance of the class. Tests cannot be made up unless prior arrangements have been made with the instructor. Make-up work has to be done by the next class meeting day.
PARTICIPATION: Students are expected to preview the materials before class, and review them after class on a daily basis. Previewing the vocab., and the grammars doesn’t take very long but it will help students learn so much faster in class and be able to participate more. Fully engaging in conversations and activities in Chinese is the best way to learn! Students’ class performance grade takes into account the effort to speak in Chinese and students’ active participation in class.
Note:
1. Answer with complete sentence in order to manifest correct sentence pattern.
2. For a respective environment for all, NO speeches/acts of discriminations. Please avoid any speeches/acts containing discriminations regarding nationality, cultures, genders, sexualities etc. If students have speeches/acts containing discriminations regarding nationality, cultures, genders, sexualities etc. in class, the teacher also has the right to interrupt them or ask them to leave the classroom anytime.
